Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for installation of reticulation system
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation and procedures for installing, maintaining and recovering reticulation systems and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, interpret and clarify work requirements before proceeding
   • Access and apply safety information and procedures throughout the work
   • Inspect and assess site conditions to determine if scaling is required and take action
   • Select and prepare required materials
   • Communicate and coordinate work activities with other personnel prior and during operation
   • Identify, address and report potential hazards, risks and environmental issues
   • Adhere to emergency procedures
   • Use approved dust suppression and extraction methods
   • Ensure area is well ventilated before entry into work area
2. Install and recover service pipes
   • Install service pipe support systems
   • Carry out isolation, tagging and re-energising procedures
   • Install and stabilise service pipes
   • Inspect and test installation to ensure functionality, safety and compliance
   • Connect/recover supply to service pipes
3. Carry out ongoing maintenance
   • Inspect and assess site conditions to determine if cable support systems are required and take action
   • Report verbally or in writing on maintenance requirements
   • Clean and store equipment

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of installation, maintenance and recovery of reticulation systems including:

inspecting and assessing site conditions

identifying, addressing and reporting risks, hazards and environmental issues

demonstrates completion of the installation, maintenance and recovery of reticulation systems that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

selecting and preparing materials for the task

using approved dust suppression and extraction methods

determining if cable support systems are required

completing installation and recovery of service pipes operations

maintaining, cleaning and storing equipment

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in installing, maintaining and recovering reticulation systems through:

work health and safety

installing, maintaining and recovering equipment and materials

identifying defects and damage

air/water systems

mine operating

environmental safety

site and underground operations
